PUNKHOUSE RECORDS

Mannequin - PPH 1a.jpg

Like many other provincial towns in the UK, Swansea was no exception when the first rumblings of a thing called ‘Punk’ started to appear in the music press of 1976/77. Thereafter, a small group of kids, dissatisfied with the currently held belief that forming a band required a degree of musical virtuosity, scoured the classified ads in the local Evening Post. Having procured their instrument of choice they started their own bands, wherein the DIY clothing and even more DIY music scratched an itch that the national charts could not. Fast forward 30-odd years and some of those same individuals realised that, unlike many of the more recognised epicentres of Punk, Swansea’s musical output from 1978-1983 was poorly documented and in danger of disappearing altogether as the people who made that music lost track of the master tapes of the only recordings from that time.

Since 2013 Punkhouse Records have been attempting to unearth, restore, and release what music can be found and recovered from the Swansea music scene of that era on both vinyl and cassette. Get in touch if you have anything!

PUNKHOUSE MODERN

Punkhouse Modern records represents a small group of contemporary artists with some connection to the Swansea scene. Clayton-Ellis were two young punks from New Jersey, USA who recorded a classic power-pop album in 2018, with Stephen Harris producing – now performing a similar role for Andrew George Griffiths, drummer of The Autonomes and a member of many local Swansea bands since.
